MARIVELES, BATAAN – Continuously challenging the standards of operational excellence in the power industry, GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD) has recorded three consecutive milestones in operations and safety last May 17, 2024: more than 200 days of continuous running operations for Unit 1; one year without lost-time incidents (LTIs), and; achieving three million safe man-hours last May 17, 2024.

Achieving over 200 continuous days of operations for Unit 1 underscores the commitment of GNPD to powering the community through equitable and reliable energy solutions. “It’s more than just a day of celebration. Try to recall where we came from when we took over Unit 1, what we all went through before,” stated GNPD Plant Manager Anton Besaris.

“Then, here we are now,” he continued. “Almost 5,000 working hours and 18,000,000 revolutions of the turbine later. We still have a long way to go – we need everyone on board, whether you are from GNPD or a contractor. Without everybody, we cannot achieve what we achieved today.”

Alec de Witt, Operations Manager of GNPD also expressed his gratitude and recognized the effort of the whole team. “It’s because of you – your commitment, dedication, and hard work that have made this possible,” he stated.

Aside from this operational success, GNPD also recorded back-to-back safety milestones: a full year without any LTIs and hitting three million safe man-hours. This highlights the company’s unwavering focus on maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all employees. This milestone is a significant indicator of the safety culture that GNPD has cultivated, which was also emphasized by GNPD Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Manager Paulo Lazaro.

“We want to put an emphasis for each and everyone that when we do things here [at GNPD], we’re not just doing it to complete our work, but the more important thing is makauwi tayo nang ligtas”, he said. “We don’t want any injuries, we don’t want any of us to be hurt.”

Just last month, GNPD, together with GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and AboitizPower, solidified their commitment to safety as they launched the Safety Culture Revolution, which highlights the life-saving rules to be practiced by all employees across the organization to double down on safety standards and ensure excellence as well as the safety of everyone on site.
